Item DescriptionKiller copy!! Right angle corners!!! Spine that looks better than newsstand!!!
Lets discuss grading. What makes a comic a 9.6 as opposed to a 9.8? On comics published from the 1960s onwards, assuming the book is flat, tight, with nice gloss and no tears no matter how small;then what is looked at are spine stress marks. In our opinion after grading many high grade valuable books if there is/are 1-2 spine stress lines, tics, marks or whatever you want to call them them it would be a 9.6.If there are no detectable stress lines from close examination of 12 inches or even under high magnification then it would be a 9.8.(again, assuming no other defects)
This issue-even under magnification-has NO detectable spine stress lines, corners are right angled and cover appears to have no other defects.Back cover also is free from spine stress lines. However there is a bindery defect at the bottom of the spine that is only visible under higher magnification.
Of note is that when one stares at a high magnification scan of the spine area of a comic on a flat bed scanner, which we use, Shadows" can appear,This is true on the back cover as we keep the lid of the scanner open so you have a black backround to contrast the edges. However the comic edges sometimes not being flush with the scanner can appear to "lift off" the scanner glass and generate shadows which can appear as defects.
In our opinion comics can get spine stress lines even from the original printing process so this comic is uncommon in that there are no visible spine stress lines.Of note is that the cover is glossy, pages are white,.No bindery defects at the top of the spine.
We have reviewed this under HIGH MAGNIFICATION.This is a flat, tight copy, unrestored that we feel is graded accurately.
