Item Description
Those young folks who "are the most unusual teenagers of all time" (as the cover proclaims) make their fifth appearance in this early issue of THE X-MEN from May of 1964! The action - and weirdness - is unrelenting at the hands of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee as they show the X-MEN (and -young woman!) meeting up with MAGNETO and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants! In "Trapped: One X-Man!", Xavier's mental powers are gone, and the X-Men try to decide how they will function without his leadership. Meanwhile, trying to ferret out the X-Men, Magneto has the Toad enter an athletic event where he leaps to victory. With the crowd turning hostile due to the Toads amazing abilities, the X-Men arrive on the scene to capture him. Magneto snags Angel and whisks him away to Asteroid M. In an attempt to trade the Toad for Angel, the X-Men arrive on Asteroid M where they battle the Brotherhood once again. On their safe return to Earth, Xavier reveals that his power loss was a ruse to test his students. Pretty sneaky!
This copy holds together well, but cover- and page-edges are a bit ragged, there is typical toning for a 56-year old comic, and a bit of handwriting at the top of the title page. There is a 1/2" tear at the edge of the front cover, as well as a date stamp in the big 'X' of the title. About what you'd expect of a comic that has been read and enjoyed since the 1960s! All these factors contribute to a conservative grading of 3.0 GD/VG ( you may judge it higher), for which Overstreet suggests a price of $110.00. We're going to make this early key issue a bit more affordable for you X-MEN fans at just $95 . . with FREE shipping!
