THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD began publication in August/September of 1955.  Originally an adventure series featuring several non-related vignettes per issue, the title eventually evolved into a team-up book, with BATMAN sharing the spotlight with other DC heroes throughout most of its run.

Here in issue #70 from February of 1967, inside the dynamic cover by Carmine Infantino, is the story "Cancelled: Two Superheroes!" written by Bob Haney and illustrated by the great EC artist Johnny Craig.  It's the first published team-up of BATMAN and HAWKMAN (other than their shared exploits in JLA).

A wealthy 'Collector' of priceless items sets out to 'collect' the secret identities of both BATMAN and HAWKMAN. But BRUCE WAYNE finds out about his plan and sets out to foil the Collector's attempt to expose the two heroes, and manages to fool all of Gotham City as well!

A clever plot by Haney with a surprise twist!

This 58-year old copy of THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #70 is in surprisingly great shape - there are some dimples and a faint crease on the cover, but the binding is strong, there are no tears chips or rough edges, and nothing mars the great art inside. We'll call it an 8.0 VF.

(The pale vertical line running through most of the scans are NOT part of the original comic - they are mechanical artifacts of my malfunctioning scanner!)
