Absent for the last 9 issues, CAPTAIN AMERICA returns here in issue  #56 of The AVENGERS, with writer Roy Thomas, displaying his unmatched talents at ret-conning, comes up with another exciting adventure for the depleted team of GOLIATH, WASP, HAWKEYE and BLACK PANTHER!!

In "Death Be Not Proud!", the AVENGERS meet up with CAPTAIN AMERICA in an old castle and find DOCTOR DOOM's Time Machine. The WASP stays behind to operate it and the rest of the AVENGERS go back in time to BUCKY's death in order to see if he actually survived. They appear in the past in spirit forms, unable to do anything but watch.

Meanwhile the WASP falls asleep in the 'future', causing the AVENGERS to appear in solid form in the past. They battle BARON ZEMO and his Humanoids for a while, and CAPTAIN AMERICA manages to partly save BUCKY, but then WASP wakes up and the AVENGERS turn into spirit form again, leaving BUCKY's fate in doubt.

John Buscema thrills us once again with his exciting and powerful artwork! 

This is a nice copy of this 55-year old comic, with a strong binding, supple pages, minimal toning and good color. The cover has slightly worn edges and stress lines near the. We're very conservatively grading it a 7.0 FN/VF, for which Overstreet suggests a price of $47.
