After Byrne's 2-year run, we saw more and more crossovers between the Superman continuity. The creators began to work more as a single unit, following some of the plot threads unique to their respective titles, but often swapping books or running epic storylines through all four books.

Some of the key storylines in this run are Time and Time Again (a time travel arc introducing the Linear Men), Red Glass (by Hudnall/Hannigan), and Blackout. Armageddon 2001 ran through the annuals, and an epilogue of sorts appeared in Action.

This was the early phase of a great era for the Man of Steel, which would soon make the titles some of the most exciting in comics. One key event from this run is Superman revealing his identity to Lois in AC #662. Superman #62 has the Sonic centerfold comic.
