Item Description
PRINCE NAMOR, THE SUB-MARINER was actually the 'grand daddy' of the whole MARVEL Comics line, being the first SuperAnti-hero published in the 1940s by ATLAS Comics, which would later become MARVEL Comics! It wasn't until the late 1960s that he was able to earn his own title once more, after making several guest appearances in comics like DAREDEVIL, FANTASTIC FOUR and TALES TO ASTONISH.In SUB-MARINER #45 in the 15-page story "And Fire Stalks the Skies!" by Gerry Conway, and illustrated by Marie Severin, NAMOR faces off against LLYRA and TIGER SHARK, but their battle is interrupted as the HUMAN TORCH shows up. An enraged NAMOR fights against the HUMAN TORCH, not knowing that the TORCH wants to help him. NAMOR defeats the TORCH and then learns from Diane Arliss that his father, Leonard McKenzie, has been kidnapped by LLYRA and TIGER SHARK.
You also get a second story - a fun tale from the Cold War era of 1955 - " Invasion!" written and illustrated by NAMOR's creator, Bill Everett! In it, the SUB-MARINER, with the help of NAMORA, turns the tables on the Soviet Navy's warships and silences their cannons and sends them packing!
This is a solid copy of SUB-MARINER #45. The binding is strong, it has nicely glossy covers, no tears or pieces missing, no toning of its 57-year old pages - but with a few mild creases and dimples on the front cover . . and 2" and 1/4" tears on the back cover. We conservatively grade this copy a 6.0 FN.
The Overstreet Price Guide feels $12 is appropriate here, but we feel $6 plus our LOW shipping cost is even MORE appropriate.
