STRANGE TALES was a 1950s horror anthology comic published by ATLAS comics not long before they became MARVEL comics. The series ran 168 issues, cover-dated June 1951 to May 1968.  Initially modeled after the gory morality tales of the popular and groundbreaking EC line of comics, STRANGE TALES became less frightfully jarring with the 1954 establishment of the Comics Code, which prohibited graphic horror, as well as vampires, zombies and other classical monsters.

Here in issue #11 from the Fall of 1952, you get 4 creepy multi-page stories, as well as 2 chilling text stories. The list of story titles - "The Devil and Donald Webster", "Ocean Monster", "Walking Ghost", "Darkness" - is eerie enough, but the artwork, from Gene Colan, Bill Everett, Jim Mooney, Paul Reinman and others, will really give you chills.  Stan Lee crafts two of the tales.

This is a beautiful and solid copy of this 68-year-old comic, with a nice strong binding, minimal toning, strong colors, and no tears, creases or pieces missing. There is a small and very faint date stamp on the back cover.  We'll conservatively grade this an 8.0 VF . . in which condition Overstreet gives this title a value of $680.  We'll put a reasonable price tag of $625 on it . . . and throw in FREE shipping!

That should take some of the CHILLS away!
