After it became apparent that George Lucas had a monstrous box-office hit on his hands, he was approached by at least 3 different comic book publishers bidding to acquire the rights to adapt his film in their pages.  Lucas chose MARVEL to be the comic book home of his movie, because he was a MARVEL fan in his teens, and even admitted he fashioned DARTH VADER somewhat after DOCTOR DOOM!!

45 years later STAR WARS COMICS have been produced by various publishers but this is the genuine first issue from 3 months after the initial film premiered . . and then ran for 107 issues!

This issue begins a pretty faithful, 6-issue adaptation of "Episode IV: A New Hope", written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by Howard Chaykin.  All the principle actors are here, and the story actually contains two scenes that were filmed, but cut from the final film: Luke seeing the battle above Tatooine and Luke going to Anchorhead.

This 45-year-old copy is in near-pristine condition - with a strong binding, supple pages, good color and even cover gloss.  We conservatively grade it at 8.0 VF which Overstreet values at $70. Maybe in a galaxy far, far away - but we're offering it for just $55 plus our phenomenally low shipping!
