SERGEANT BILKO, the popular name for The PHIL SILVERS Show, was among the most popular and long-lasting of the mid-1950s TV comedies. It centered on the Army hijinks of Master Sgt. Ernest J. Bilko and his wacky platoon of underachievers, earning three straight Emmys for 'Best Comedy'!

Starting in May 1957 and running to to April 1960, DC Comics published the SERGEANT BILKO comic book, which lasted 18 issues. Here is issue #1, featuring the appealing and great art of BOB OKSNER, who caricatured the cast of SGT. BILKO perfectly!

In the full-issue story, written by Disney comic writer CAL HOWARD, SGT. BILKO, in an attempt to avoid maneuvers by faking an illness, actually gets injured and winds up in the camp infirmary, nearly spoiling the date he had planned with an attractive farmer's daughter!

This is a great copy of SERGEANT BILKO #1, with a strong spine, and no tears, or pieces missing. There is a small crease to the bottom right corner of the cover, and one or two rough edges. Unfortunately, after 68 years in the owner's library, it has developed a good bit of toning, but the pages are supple, the colors are bright, and nothing mars BOB OKSNER's wonderful art!

The Overstreet Price Guide grades a SERGEANT BILKO #1 in 4.5 VG+.condition at $174.00 . . . but we say, "AT EASE, GENTLEMEN!" and award this copy with a $120.00 price tag!!
