Here is the currently most-sought-after issue of SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING = issue #37 from the late Spring of 1985 - the issue that introduces the popular character of John Constantine!  Constantine went on to star in his own comic, HELLBLAZER.  It's been said that writer Allan Moore wanted to create this character and he asked artists Rick Veitch and John Totleben what they would most like to draw, and both had said that they wanted to draw a character that looked like the musician STING!

In "GROWTH PATTERNS", John Constantine is an occult investigator from England. He learns that something large is set to occur in the world of the supernatural and sets about learning all he can about it. He travels to Louisiana in his search and eventually finds Abby and the SWAMP THING. He chides the SWAMP THING  or his ignorance and informs him that he is the last remaining plant elemental. He has the ability to extend his essence through any vegetative matter – with the ability to instantly teleport nearly any place he chooses to on Earth.  SWAMP THINGS wants to know more, but Constantine must leave for Chicago on his quest to understand the imminent arrival of 'the Great Evil"!

Alan Moore tells a creepy story, weighted by a sense of approaching doom, and Veitch & Totleben make it all look eerily believable!
