Harry Holmes (born Herman W Mudgett) designed a huge hotel called The Castle-built and furnished on bad checks and unpaid depts. Although his hotel guests, lady friends and male enemies often vanished without notice, for 15 years no one suspected handsome and debonair Holmes of more than check bouncing and horse thieving-until insurance fraud investigators, searching his rented house, found two 'vanished" children buried in the cellar. Detectives immediately searched The Castle, to learn Holmes did not Kill for extortion alone. Labyrinthine hallways ed to chambers of horror-windowless, asbestos-lined, iron-walled rooms equipped with poison gas jets, a stove containing scorched bone fragments, greased chutes and secret trap doors connecting guest rooms to a hidden cellar. There, amid scattered bones of children, adults and animals, investigators found a torture rack (Holmes was said to wonder how far a human body could be stretched), an acid vat, medical instruments and a dissection table, under which lay a neat stack of female skeletons. Although Holmes bragged of 27 murders, including slowly gassing children to death in a box, some suggested the toll may have neared 200.This Image( kb).Click ABOVEthe image to view LARGER VERSION Size ( kb).Card 31: BLOOD DRINKERSVampire lore spread throughout Europe in the 18th century. when people believed that spirits walked the Earth at night to suck blood from the living, returning to their unholy graves during the day. The only way to kill these "vampires" was to exhume their bodies and drive a wooden stake through their hearts Sometimes the exhumed corpse revealed "evidence" that the deceased was a vampire. Where modern forensic pathologists would recognize a mummified or gas-bloated cadaver with decomposing platelets, vampire-killers saw an unusually. preserved or well-fed body with liquid blood-proof of an undead entity. The modern image of a vampire as an elegant, seductive nobleman largely comes from Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula. Stoker based his character on VIad Tepes. called Vlad the Impaler, a 1 5-century Transylvanian ruler known for his cruelty. Vlad impaled as many as 30,000 victims on stakes. Inserted up the rectum of men and the vagina of women and allowed them to die slowly as their own weight forced them further down the stake. Another Transylvanian, Countess Elizabeth Bathory. believed that blood gave her eternal youth. This vampiress slashed and drained over 50 maidens for her literal 'bloodbaths."R.l.P. was conceived and designed by Eric Nesheim.Haunting computer graphics by Kandis Elliot.Contributing authors are Kandis Elliot,Kathryn A. Card 35: DUSSELDORF VAMPIREHe was quiet and polite-yet, after a diabolical childhood, Peter Kurten secretly stashed a frail of death across Germany, earning the title "Vampire of Dusseldorf" and becoming the inspiration for Fritz Lang's classic movieM. As a boy kurten tortured and killed animals; as a teen he raped and slaughtered sheep, goats and pigs. He also drowned a friend in the Rhine. A petty thief, he spent 20 of the next 30 years in jail, yet managed to marry and appear an upstanding citizen. In secret, he hunted girls and women, raping, killing, and drinking their blood. On a single evening in 1929, he killed two sisters aged 9 and 14, attempted to rape a woman, end toter, in the span of half an hour, attacked two mere women and a man. Dusseldorf was terrorized. His fatal mistake was to show one victim his apartment before raping her in a nearby weeds. He let her live, thinking she wouldn't remember the location of his home. She did. At his trial, Kurten painstakingly detailed the sadistic ways of his brutal childhood and bloody secret life. On July 1,1932, as he placed his neck under the guillotine blade, kurten asked, "Will I be able to hear my own bleed gushing from the stump of my neck? That would be the pleasure to end al pleasures."This Image( kb).Click ABOVEthe image to view LARGER VERSION Size ( kb).R.I.P Published by Kitchen Sink Press, Inc. ~End Of Description ======================================lSHIPPING DISCOUNT FOR U.S. CUSTOMERS!AFTER the first $5.00 shipping, add only 25 cents for each additional win/buy.
