Item Description
MAUS - A SURVIVOR's TALE: MY FATHER BLEEDS HISTORY is the widely-acclaimed graphic novel inspired by his parents' horrible struggles under the NAZI regime in World War II. Art Spiegelman was the first Graphic Novel Writer/Artist to win the Nobel Prize for literature, and critics worldwide praised his depiction of despair and terror Jewish families lived under in the 1940s.Told as a story-within-a-story, MAUS relates Spiegelman's contentious and strained relationship with his father as he interviews him about his War experiences . . and then translates them into a gripping black and white tableau, where Jews are represented as Mice, and the Nazis as Cats and Pigs!
MAUS is full of tragedy, but also imparts a sense of hope and determination to rise above the ugliness of the Third Reich. Spiegelman's minimalist art is very effective in making the story accessible and moving. MAUS first appeared in the underground comic RAW in installments starting in 1980, and was then collected into this Graphic Novel in 1986, when it caused shockwaves of praise and also condemnation all over the world.

Here is a First Printing copy of MAUS - A SURVIVOR'S TALE I: MY FATHER BLEEDS HISTORY from Pantheon Books, The spine is nicely square, its 164 pages are unblemished, with no toning, and there are no tears or pieces missing. The cover has a bit of edge wear and the upper front corner was bent at some point. Overall, it's a good-looking and solid copy, which we are conservatively grading at 7.5 VF- (with points off for the dinged corners) . . which Overstreet values at $30. We're hopeful to get this into the hands of interested readers, and are pricing it at just $15.
It weighs about a pound, but that doesn't affect our ALWAYS LOW shipping of just $2!
