MAN-BAT, Batman's tragically misunderstood sometimes enemy/occasional ally is the focus of this 1984 one-shot reprint of his first three appearances in DETECTIVE COMICS #400, #402 and #407, all with the exciting artistry of Neal Adams!

Inside the front and back covers by Adams, we learn the story of Zoologist KIRK LANGSTROM's research on the advanced auditory capabilities of bats, and his desire to help humans with hearing loss with his findings.

In the first story, from DETECTIVE COMICS #400, Langstrom drinks a serum he has isolated from bat hormones . . . and finds himself unexpectedly turned into MAN-BAT! He and BATMAN soon cross paths, and after an initial misunderstanding of the other's intent, they work together to take down a criminal gang, before MAN-BAT disappears.

In the issue #402 story, BATMAN and MAN-BAT are again thrown together unintentionally, and this time Langstrom actually develops bat wings, somewhat to his horror! He manages to find his way to a cliff cave, and from there into the BATCAVE, surprising BATMAN and leading to further scuffles before they part ways, wary of each other, but with the beginnings of a bond.

We also meet the love of Kirk Langstrom's life, Francine Lee, in this story.

In the third story in this reprint book, from DETECTIVE #407, "Marriage: Impossible!", Frank Robbins and Neal Adams, BATMAN tries to stop the wedding of Kirk Langstrom to Francine Lee - both of whom have been turned into bat-creatures, unknowingly!

There is also a special one-page MAN-BAT pin-up with artwork by co-creator Frank Robbins!

This is a great-looking 40-year old comic -- the binding is strong, the colors are bright, the covers still have their gloss . . it's 52 pages of Neal Adams action in top-notch condition!
