LAST DAYS OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA wasa one-shot comic book special from DC Comics, in 1986. A sequel to the maxi-series _CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS_, this book's purpose was to remove the JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA from the DC universe, because the writers felt that the team of aging heroes had become irrelevant in the post-_Crisis_ world. However, it was done in such a way that the JSA could be brought back in the future, should any writer wish. And they did. Six years later!

Fifteen members and associates of the Justice Society - HAWKMAN, HAWKGIRL, FLASH, GREEN LANTERN, SANDMAN, SANDY, STARMAN, DR. MID-NITE, DR. FATE, ATOM, JOHNNY THUNDER, HOURMAN, WILDCAT, POWER GIRL, and STAR-SPANGLED KID - are gathered for a private memorial service for the ROBIN and HUNTRESS of Earth-Two, who had recently been killed in the Crisis. Feeling redundant in a world filled with younger heroes, the JSA is about to officially disband, when suddenly THE SPECTRE appears to them, apparently fatally wounded despite being a ghost. In an instant of psychic communion, he puts a message into DR. FATE's head, and then dissipates. DR. FATE then psychically shares this information with all the others, and elaborates as he casts a spell to transport them all through time and space to Berlin on April 15, 1945.

From there they journey to Asgard to stop Ragnarok from destroying the single Earth... a Ragnarok summoned by Hitler in 1945 while possessing the Spear of Destiny due to the SPECTRE's energies reaching backward in time to the Spear itself. The JSA (minus POWER GIRL, DR. FATE, andSTAR SPANGLED KID who are returned to the present by DR.FATE) then merge with the Asgardian gods and fight a never-ending battle (like a moebius strip), thus thwarting Hitler's ultimate revenge vs the allies in 1945.

An amazing bit of storytelling from Roy Thomas, the master of retro continuity! And nicely illustrated by David Ross and Mike Gustovich who don't shy away from showing the 16 different Golden Age heroes as many times as necessary!

In this big 68-page special issue, you also get the 2-page Epilegomena penned by Thomas to explain what's going on here, a portrait of the 10 main JSA heroes by Michael air, an unpublished page from a JSA story of 1945, and the back cover features the ALL-Star COMICS #12 front cover from 1942!
