Titles: King Kong
Released: Sep 1968

Ann Darrow
This 1968 adaptation, published by Gold Key (a part of Western Publishing), was later repackaged by Whitman as a treasury sized edition, in 1970, and in several international versions including Sweden, Germany, Norway and the UK (from Top Sellers Ltd).
The story is based on the 1932 novelization by Delos W. Lovelace (the rights to which were owned by Merian C. Cooper, one of the producers of RKO's 1933 film version of King Kong).
The strip was written by Gold Key regular, Gary Poole (who also wrote titles such as The Twilight Zone, Flash Gordon and Battle of the Planets for the company). Some sources cite Giovanni Ticci as the interior penciller. Ticci was a friend and collaborator of the credited interior artist, Alberto Giolitti, so this is possible but not yet verified (25/01/15). In an interview with The Grand Comics Database (GCD), writer Poole only mentions Giolitti, saying that the artwork was produced in Italy.
This book has deep rich color on this all-time-classic King Kong on The Empire State Building, which was the tallest building in NYC at the time. There is a long thin tape-seal on the inside front cover behind the Gold Key box at the spine. With creasings on the covers. We have adjusted the grade accordingly. With cream pages and white/slight cream tint inner covers. This book is hard to find in any condition and is highly sought after!
