Here's the scion of Asgard, the MIGHTY THOR, appearing just three years after his debut in the science fiction/fantasy anthology comic, JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY, and less than one year before the God of Thunder got his own self-titled comic, with THOR #126.

"Into the Blaze of Battle!", written by Stan Lee and with dynamic action art from Jack Kirby, finds LOKI winning the Trial of the Gods through deceit and trickery. Odin gives THOR 24 hours to prove LOKI's dishonesty. On Earth, BALDER has been battling the ENCHANTRESS and the EXECUTIONER who were tormenting JANE FOSTER., but they flee when THOR arrives. THOR then flies to Vietnam in search of the Norn Stones to prove LOKI's dishonesty. There he becomes involved in that country's war. He rescues a Vietnamese girl named KIM after the rest of her family is killed as a result of their opposing ideologies.

Jack Kirby also illustrates the TALES OF ASGARD back-up feature, "The Sword in the Scabbard!", wherein ODIN becomes furious and intervenes when THOR and LOKI face each other in combat. ODIN shows them the Odinsword. and tells them the legend thatthe universe will perish if the sword is ever drawn from its scabbard. ODIN sends his two sons on a quest to find the unknown enemy who has broken the scabbard, and put an end to this evil scheme.

This 60-year old copy of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #117 is in OK condition - no tears, bent corners, or excessive toning -- but there is a tiny piece out of the front cover at the top edge as well as the bottom right corner, a date stamp on the cover, and some unobtrusive handwriting on the splash page. 

We'll call this a 3.5 VG- , which The Overstreet Price Guide values at $28 -- we however are going to make this issue a bargain for THORists at just $18 - the best value for this issue you'll find on HipComic!
