Item DescriptionHere's THOR, appearing three years after his debut in the science fiction/fantasy anthology comic, JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #83, and just one year before the God of Thunder got his own self titled comic, with THOR #126.
In the 16-page lead story, "The Mighty Thor Battles the Incredible Hulk!", two rival fan clubs debate who is stronger, THOR or the HULK? THOR happens to be passing by, overhears the debate, and drops in to offer his opinion. He relates the story of their epic battle (in AVENGERS #3) and describes a previously unseen scene in which he and the HULK tussle. He goes into deep thought and when pressed, cannot say who is the stronger, because he has insufficient proof! Days later, the HULK gives thought to his meeting with THOR and vows that, next time, THOR will be smashed forever!
Stan Lee scripts . . Jack Kirby brings it to life!
Kirby also illustrates another TALES OF ASGARD installment, "The Coming of Loki!", in which The Asgardians battle the Giants. Laufey, King of the Giants of Jotenheim, is slain. A bundle of cloth is found. It contains a baby. ODIN adopts the child and names him LOKI.
This copy has been handled and enjoyed repeatedly, but is still in fine reading shape. Cover- and page-edges are a bit ragged, and there is typical toning for a 58-year old comic. The spine is strong, the pages are supple, but there is some scuffing to the bottom of the front cover, as well as a store date stamp, and a bit of handwriting at the top of the splash page. Otherwise it is pretty fault-free - no tears, creases or pieces missing. We'll give it a conservative grading of 3.5 VG- , for which Overstreet suggests a price of $125! We're going to make this early sought-after issue a bit more affordable for THORists at $100 - which lets you read this fun issue at the most affordable price here on HipComic! . . with the bonus of our FREE SHIPPING!
