JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY was initially published by Atlas Comics, then by its successor, Marvel Comics. Originally a horror comics anthology, it changed to giant-monster and science fiction stories in the late 1950s. Beginning with issue #83, though, in 1963, it became the home of the "The Mighty Thor", created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, and inspired by the mythological Norse Thunder God.

Here's a JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY from the period before before the title changed to 'The MIGHTY THOR! In the 18-page lead story, "At the Mercy of Loki, Prince of Evil!", THOR is called to the aid of DOCTOR STRANGE, and as Dr. Blake saves his life after a crippling mystic attack, LOKI takes advantage of a misunderstanding between THOR and ODIN to come to Earth and kidnap Jane Foster. THOR finds LOKI and defeats him, while a grateful DOCTOR STRANGE saves Jane.

Kirby also illustrates another TALES OF ASGARD installment, "Trapped by the Trolls!", in which the king of the dwarfs attempts to sell an incognito THOR to the trolls as a slave, and THOR frees all of their captives and destroys their mine.

This is a fine looking copy of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #108 with a solid spine, supple pages, and no ragged edges or pieces missing. It has less-than-typical toning for a 59-year old comic. A very healthy specimen! All these factors contribute to a conservative grading of 7.0 FN/VF, for which Overstreet suggests a price of $138 due to the early appearance of DOCTOR STRANGE and a cameo by three of The AVENGERS.
