Here is the third issue of HAWKMAN's own title, after hundreds of his appearances in DC titles, dating all the way back to his first appearance in FLASH COMICS #1 in 1940!  When DC editor Julius Schwartz decided to resurrect many Golden Age heroes in the 1960s, he called on early HAWKMAN creator Gardner Fox to bring the winged Thanagarian law officer back to newsstands under his own title!

Here in HAWKMAN #3 you get two great stories from HAWKMAN's original scripter, Gardner Fox, with both stories being illustrated by one of the Winged Wonder's most celebrated portrayers - Murphy Anderson!

In "The Fear That Haunted Hawkman!", Fox and Anderson tell the story of how an ancient Egyptian statue mysteriously causes HAWKMAN to fear the leader of the Sky-Raiders.

And in the cover-story tale, "The Birds in the Gilded Cage!", Anderson dynamically illustrates Fox's story of an alien bird-creature misunderstanding HAWKMAN's and HAWKGIRL's work as crimefighters and imprisons them in a cage to "protect" them from a gang of crooks.

This is a pretty amazing-looking 62-year old Silver Age HAWKMAN -- no creases, tears, pieces missing, or abnormal toning. The binding is strong, and the colors are bright!  There is a very faint date stamp, and a tiny '64', on the front cover and minimal 'wrinkles' along the right edge of the cover.
