This imaginative mini-series, written by Ron Marz and illustrated by Paul Pelletier, appeared near the end of volume 3 of the GREEN LANTERN title, when Kyle Rayner, a young art student, was introduced as the new protagonist and the "last" Green Lantern, since the Corps no longer existed. He fell in love with the original Golden Age GREEN LANTERN's daughter, JADE, who also wielded the ring's power.

This 3-parter takes place after JADE has disappeared, and Rayner and Alan Scott go on a search for her, first interrogating the supervillain BRAIN WAVE at Arkham Asylum, who they suspect somehow arranged for her to be kidnapped. But while there, they are confronted by JADE's brother, OBSIDIAN, and battle him to prevent him from killing BRAIN WAVE. But they are able to subdue him long enough to learn that the STARHEART, the personification of the original force behind Alan Scott's ring, has JADE captive!

The battle with STARHEART leaves Alan Scott close to death, and Rayner must battle both STARHEART and OBSIDIAN to free JADE, who makes a deal with the villains to join their side, but after kissing Kyle and assuring him she'll be alright, she growswho grows incredibly stronger with her new powers, but switches sides and fights STARHEART! After a flash of green light, Kyle, JADE, Alan, and OBSIDIAN return to the real world and all ends well.
