Jack Kirby made headlines when he jumped from Marvel to DC in 1970 and created his wildly imaginative 'FOURTH WORLD' oeuvre. The FOREVER PEOPLE became a somewhat light-hearted piece in the new direction Kirby engineered, which also brought Apokolips and DARKSEID into the DC Universe.

The FOREVER PEOPLE were a group of young New Gods from New Genesis who were on a mission to oppose DARKSEID on Earth, and talked, dressed, and acted much like the flower children of the 1960s. The group was composed of Mark Moonrider, Big Bear, Vykin the Black, Serifan, and Beautiful Dreamer. In addition to their individual abilities and equipment, the group could join together using the technology of a MOTHER BOX to summon the powerful hero known as the INFINITY-MAN. The group travels by use of their Super-Cycle and are aided by the Boom Tube.

Here's issue #5 of the title's 11-issue run. In KIRBY's story 'Sonny Sumo!', an honor-bound warrior from New Genesis who held fast to old Japanese traditions. Proficient in the competitive sport of Sumo, Sonny was forced to use his skills for money in underworld competition. Here, MOTHER BOX helps heal him of burn wounds after he fights a robot. Then it transports SONNY to Happyland, where he helps break the FOREVER PEOPLE free of DESAAD's traps. SONNYunites his will with that of the MOTHER BOX, putting their pursuers to sleep. DARKSEID, watching from afar, realizes that SONNY possesses the Anti-Life Equation. He decides that the FOREVER PEOPLE must be killed, and SONNY SUMO captured!

There is also a reprint of Kirby's 1943 ADVENTURE COMICS story of SANDMAN in "CRIME CARNIVAL", and his imagination and talent are further on display in the 4-page story "The Young Gods of Supertown!", introducing LONAR and his first meeting with the great white stallion THUNDERER.

Jack Kirby's story, characters and artwork are incredibly imaginative and appealing!

This is a great copy of FOREVER PEOPLE #5 - it certainly doesn't look like a 42-year old comic! Its 52 pages are strongly bound to the spine, the pages are supple and bright, and there are no rough edges, splits, tears. stress lines or pieces missing that we can see! We conservatively grade this as an 8.0 VF, for which Overstreet suggests a price of $117!.
