Stan Lee and Jack Kirby certainly earned that distinction - providing a mammoth amount of action, thrills and drama in their years together on this title! They step it up a notch here in issues #41, #42 & #43 with the First FANTASTIC FOUR Three-Issue Story Arc!

Scripted by Stan Lee, pencilled by Jack Kirby, and inked by Vince Colletta, these three issues deliver the fraught tale of BEN GRIMM leaving the FANTASTIC FOUR, partly feeling unappreciated for the many times he has saved the group, and partly due to his festering anger at REED RICHARDS, holding him responsible for originally turning BEN into THE THING!

When BEN leaves the FF, he soon finds himself a captive of The FRIGHTFUL FOUR (MADAM MEDUSA, TRAPSTER, SANDMAN, and the WIZARD) and imprisoned in their hideout in New Jersey! They attach a mind-altering device to him, and make him believe he is a villain and part of the FRIGHTFUL FOUR!

The remaining three members of the FF go searching for him to bring him back, and by chance, discover the FRIGHTFUL FOUR's lair, where a huge battle ensues! - with THE THING fighting against his former teammates, viewing them as the enemy!

REED and SUE manage to spirit BEN back to the FF's base . . but are soon attacked again by the villainous quartet, who now have The TORCH similarly brainwashed like THING, and fighting against them.

But there is a satisfying conclusion to the battle, with REED able to restore BEN and TORCH to their true identities, and though they are left with scars of the mistrust and hard feelings they've gone through, the FANTASTIC FOUR reunite with a determination to support each other and fight for the good!

These are three well-read copies of FANTASTIC FOUR #41 - 43, with worn but strong bindings, stress lines, a few ragged edges, moderate spine roll, small splits or pieces out of the cover edges and a bit of handwriting at the tops of all three title pages . .but all pages are supple and bright, and minimal toning for their 60 years, with no foxing!
