Here's the birth of the veddy British branch of the X-Men -- EXCALIBUR!

EXCALIBUR sprang from the combined creativity of old British pals Chris Claremont and Alan Davis in 1987 as an offshoot of the X-MEN, and made their debut appearance here in EXCALIBUR: SPRCIAL EDITION.

The first EXCALIBUR consisted of the British superhero, Captain Britain, his lover, Meggan, and three former members of the X-Men: Phoenix, Nightcrawler and Shadowcat. This 52-page tryout special was successful enough to give the team their own title, which lasted from 1988 until 1998. Originally, the series involved cross-dimensional travel that incorporated as many elements of Captain Britain's mythos as it did the X-Men's

Alan Davis appears to have really enjoyed working with his old mate, Claremont, as he packs every page with dozens of figures and dynamic action!  It's a story full of Claremont's trademark character interaction, as well as crescendoing exploits!
