DELL COMICS was already a powerhouse in the comics industry when, in 1949, they began to publish GIANT comics with 100 pages of story, and cardstock covers with a square binding. Even at the increased cover price of 25¢ they were very profitable, and continued (with a gradually diminishing page count) until Fall of 1961, ending with DELL GIANT #55.

Here in issue #1 of DONALD AND MICKEY IN DISNEYLAND from May of 1958, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and a host of their Disney friends, explore the fun to be had on TOM SAWYER'S ISLAND, built as an adventure playground for younger visitors to DISNEYLAND (which was just shy of three years old at the time this comic was published!).

The well-known gang is featured here - Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Uncle Scrooge, Chip n Dale, Grandma Duck and others! They visit the six different attractions on Tom Sawyer's Island in stories of adventure and humor . . and there is a detailed map of the island inside the front cover!

There are 11 activity pages, some of which have been neatly marked. Even the back cover has a cut-out-and-play activity connected to Tom Sawyer's Island!

This is a very nice copy of DONALD AND MICKEY IN DISNEYLAND #1 with its strong binding, glossy covers and supple pages. It has bright colors and no foxing! There are several minor stress lines, dimples, a bruised corner, and rough edges, and a 3/8" split at the edge of the front cover.

Overstreet values this issue, in this grade of 5.0 VG/FN, at $31. We're willing to say 'Adios!' to it for a mere $16. - making it the most affordable copy here on HipComic!
