Following the dark-toned mini-series by Giffen & DeMatteis, this monthly title ran for over three years. DeMatteis continued to explore the war between the Lords of Order & Chaos, but mainly explored the complex relationship between Eric & Linda Strauss, the two halves of the new composite Dr. Fate. With Nabu as their guide, the novice heroes face threats from Wotan to Darkseid.

It's a really unique run focusing heavily on spirituality, sort of a combination of Christianity & Eastern mysticism, balanced by light humor. Appearances by the JLI & Phantom Stranger. The series would continue under Messner-Loebs with Inza Nelson as the new Dr. Fate.
