Item Description
DAREDEVIL was created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, and first appeared in DAREDEVIL #1 (1964). The son of boxer 'Battlin' Jack' Murdock, Matt Murdock grew up in the relative poverty of Hell's Kitchen with much reverence for his father, who constantly pressed him to study instead of playing with his friends. In turn, they taunted him with the facetious nickname DAREDEVIL since he always went back to studying and secretly training in his father's gym instead of doing things with them.Matt was blinded by toxic chemicals, but learned to hone his physical skills and other senses to the point where he was a fearsome force for good in his neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, even after opening a law firm there.
Here in issue #5, Wally Wood's first issue as artist, you get "The Mysterious Masked Matador!", wherein a disgraced matador turns criminal to have his revenge on humanity. DAREDEVIL manages to stop the criminal's incessant cape waving. Foggy tells Matt he's planning on asking Karen to marry him, causing Matt to forget about telling Karen he loves her and instead deciding to live the life of a loner.
This is the first issue to bear DAREDEViL's new chest emblem, designed by Wally Wood with a go-ahead from Stan Lee. There is also a full page 'pin up' of Daredevil, with DAREDEVIL drawn by Wood, and the background buildings added by none other than Jack Kirby!!
This is a well-preserved copy of DAREDEVIL #5 with a strong binding and minimal toning of its 57-year old pages! There is a bit of handwriting on the title page, and a little bit on the letters page, with some minor scuffs and stress lines on the cover. But those are the only real visible blemishes. It still has good eye-appeal and good color and that leads us to grading this a 5.5 FN-. Compare our reasonable price of $96 to the other outrageous prices for DAREDEVIL #5 here on HipComic! You'll want to grab this one while you can! And shipping is FREE!
Even DAREDEVIL could 'SEE' what a great deal this is!
