BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, the FOX TV series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar in the title role, was an early and almost instant hit for the young television network.  With the show's popularity soaring, DARK HORSE comics swiftly acquired the rights for a comic book adaptation.

And DARK HORSE did a great job with this title, using several of the TV show's writers to craft stories about Buffy and her 'Scooby Gang' that were slightly outside the canon of the TV series, but meshed with the stories that appeared on FOX.

Here are two versions of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #1 from 1998, both with identical interiors (a story in which Biffy tangles with Asian Vampires) . . . but one with an illustrated cover by Arthur Adams, the other with a photo cover of star Sarah Michelle Gellar.
