Here are two early Silver Age issues of THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, from back when it was a kind of a 'tryout' title for new characters. The Silver Age HAWKMAN debuted just two issues earlier in B&B #34!

In BRAVE AND THE BOLD #36 you get two stories by Gardner Fox starring HAWKMAN along with HAWKGIRL. In "Strange Spells of the Sorcerer!" , Katar and Shayera Hol (Hawkman and Hawkgirl's Thanagarian identities) confront an amateur sorcerer who conjures up mythical beasts to keep the Thanagarians busy while he steals five objects, which, when used in an ancient spell, should transform him into the Earth's mightiest sorcerer. And in "Shadow-Thief of Midway City!", we're treated to the debut of the Shadow-Thief! Carl Sands helps an alien from another dimension, who gives him a Dimensiometer which allows him to turn into a living shadow and who will torment HAWKMAN for many years!

All stories in these two issues feature the powerful and distinctive art of Joe Kubert.

In issue #42 Fox contributes the 25-page story "The Menace of the Dragonfly Raiders", wherein Hawkman and Hawkgirl return to Thanagar, where arch-foe Byth has escaped from prison and replicated his powers in the others of his gang. The Hawks use police techniques they learned on Earth to capture the criminals.

These are a couple of 60-year old Silver Age BRAVE AND THE BOLD copies that have obviously been read and re-read over the years! -- they bear assorted nicks, tears, and ragged edges. There is a taped split at the top of #42's cover. The bindings are strong however, and there is only moderate page toning. We conservatively grade these a 2.0 GD . . . which Overstreet values at a combined $53! . . . but these look more like a combined $15 to us . . with our always-L•O•W shipping!
