In Bleeding Hearts, we start from there: not with the fall of humanity, but with what the monsters build in the ruins. Our lead, Poke- Mouse-Pokes-Golf-Ball-Through-Hole-In-Head—is a happy citizen of that new order. He shambles, he hunts, he loves, in the limited, thoughtless way you can love when your heart is a dead thing in your chest. And then, on page one, that heart starts beating again. Suddenly, the humans he’s always seen as meat become something much more dangerous: something he might care about. That’s the story we’re telling here: a world built on ruthless, kill-or-be-killed logic colliding with the inconvenient return of empathy. What happens to a zombie society when one of its own begins to feel guilt, kindness, affection? What happens to a mother and child who have only ever known the dead as predators when one of them reaches out a hand instead of teeth?
