Item Description
BATMAN #237 from Winter 1971 is the first DC story (of a half dozen in the '70s) centered on the annual Halloween/Superhero festivities in Rutland, VT. It's also the first appearance of the GRIM REAPER!In "Night of the Reaper!", DICK GRAYSON and his college friends (which are depicted by artist NEAL ADAMS as 'caricatures' of DC staffers Gerry Conway, Berni Wrightson and Alan Weiss) travel to the Halloween celebration in Rutland Vermont. ROBIN and BATMAN get caught between two sides, both of which are looking for revenge against an ex-Nazi officer who was part of the Holocaust.
A terrifically tense story by DENNY O'NEIL with incredible artwork by the one and only NEAL ADAMS! In the story, participants at the RUTLAND HALLOWEEN PARADE are dressed as BATMAN, BATGIRL, MAN-BAT, HAWKMAN, CAPTAIN MARVEL, SUPERMAN, AQUAMAN, SOLOMON GRUNDY, ROBIN . . and SPIDER-MAN, THOR, INVISIBLE GIRL, DOCTOR DOOM, CAPTAIN AMERICA, HAVOK AND QUICKSILVER from Marvel Comics!)
You also get a reprint, in this big 48-page issue, of the classic BATMAN tale "The Screaming House" from 1940, written and illustrated by BATMAN's legendary creators BILL FINGER and BOB KANE!
This is a pretty great copy of BATMAN #237, with a bright and glossy cover, supple pages, and a strong, perfectly straight spine! There is a tiny nick out of the front cover corner edge, and a bit of sloppy printing throughout - but nothing detracts from NEAL ADAMS' amazing artwork!
We think it rates in 7.0 FN/VF condition, and as such, the Overstreet Price Guide assigns a copy of this issue a value of $99 . . . but we're making it an affordable treasure at just $81 . . and it comes with our always-LOW shipping cost of just $2!
Don't miss out - it's the Best BAT-Bargain for this issue on HipComic!!
