Item Description
STEVE DITKO, the creator and main artist for Spider-Man comics since 1962, handles both pencils and inks for AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #23, in which the GREEN GOBLIN makes his third menacing appearance! The GREEN GOBLIN shows up to a mobster hangout and demands the thugs to bow to his superior skill as he wants to take over Lucky Lobo's mob. The gangsters and the GOBLIN don't see eye to eye, so the GOBLIN makes a hasty retreat and gets a write-up in the paper about him attacking mobsters. PETER PARKER heads over to The Daily Bugle's office, he sees J. Jonah Jameson meeting with Frederick Foswell, formally the mobster known as the Big Man.
Meanwhile, GREEN GOBLIN gets a list of unreported taxable income about Lucky Lobo's companies from a henchman. He gives the information to Foswell who reports on it at The Daily Bugle. While swinging around, SPIDER-MAN notices speeding police cars and a raid on the mob's lair. The GOBLIN leads SPIDER-MAN into Lucky Lobo's hang out and leaves the two there to destroy each other.
But SPIDER-MAN comes out on top, and the GREEN GOBLIN slinks away.
This issue contains a full-page 'Marvel Masterwork' pin-up of Spider-Man, with 30 head-shots of his friends and foes. And there's a letter-to-the-editor from young Jim Shooter, the future Editor-in-Chief of Marvel!
This is a fair-looking, and clean copy of SPIDER-MAN #23 that has seen better days! Obviously enjoyed repeatedly over its 56-year life span, writing at the top of the splash page, the spine is worn, there is a shirt fold at the bottom of the front cover, and there are a few ragged edges. The binding is strong, the pages are supple and have normal toning - but the artwork is all clear and bright. Overstreet prices this issue in a grade of 3.5 VG-at $72 . . . but we think $66 is more reasonable, and gives you this original issue at the best price on HipComic! -- as a matter of fact, it's the ONLY #23 on HipComic!
And we'll throw in our always-LOW shipping, to boot!!
