Item Description
Legendary comic book artist Gil Kane had long made a name for himself on multiple titles at DC Comics from the mid-50s through the end of the 1960s . . and then changed stomping grounds and became a mainstay at Marvel Comics through the end of his career. Here's his 16th issue at the drawing board of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN in a brilliant 22-issue run!In "The Spider Slayer!", the ominous Spider-like mobile death-machine of evil inventor Professor Smythe, that last appeared in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #58 - 47 issues ago!! Having returned home from the Savage Land, Peter Parker decides to go web-slinging across the city. He happens upon a protest being organized by Randy Robertson against the Daily Bugle and it's lack of reporting about the "ordinary man". J. Jonah Jamesonis enraged, and his quick temper almost incites a riot, but he's pulled out of there SPIDER-MAN.
He then returns home to prepare for the arrival of his roommate Harry Osborn, who is back out from the hospital following his drug overdose.
That night, J. Jonah Jameson visits Spencer Smythe, who has created a brand new Spider-Slayer robot for Jameson to use against Spider-Man. Jameson takes it out for a test run in the city, finds SPIDER-MAN and attacks him with the Spider-Slayer. But Smythe has other plans, and secretly controls the robot to crash into a tech lab that he intends to pillage.
But there's more -- Smythe has attached a tracking device to SPIDER-MAN and catches him changing back into Peter Parker, revealing his secret identity!!
Beautifully dynamic action by Gil Kane, with Frank Giacoia inking, and a fun story by Stan Lee!
This is a really nice, good-looking and solid copy of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #105, with a strong binding, a glossy cover, supple pages and bright color. The pages have very little toning for a 51-year-old comic, and no foxing. There is the faintest hint of a mild subscription crease, barely noticeable. A solid 7.0 FN/VF Overstreet prices this issue in this grade at $33 . . . but we think $21 is a bit more reasonable!
(And our mere $2 shipping fee is another good reason to take this SPIDEY home!)
