Item Description
ALL-STAR SQUADRON, as a series, debuted in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #193 (August 1981) and was created by Roy Thomas, Rich Buckler and Jerry Ordway. Although the team was introduced in the 1980s, its self-titled series took place in the 1940s, retroactively inserting their narratives into the fictional history of the DC Comics superheroes. The team included many of DC's Golden Age era characters, new characters, and other World War II superheroes that DC did not own during the 1940s but later acquired. The name "All-Star Squadron" was creator Roy Thomas' reference to ALL-STAR COMICS_,_ the series that introduced the JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA, the first comic book superhero team.
Here in the second (of three) ALL-STAR SQUADRON ANNUALS, Roy Thomas delivers another great adventure of the Golden Age heroes he admired so much! In "THE ULTRA WAR!", illustrated by the fearless illustrator, Jerry Ordway (he HAD to be fearless - some pages have 30 different figures in costume!), the ALL-STAR SQUADRON and INFINITY INC (the superhero team mostly composed of the children and heirs of the JSA), along with the might of other members of the original JUSTICE SOCIETY of AMERICA, stop the ULTRA-HUMANITE and his super-powered allies from placing the ULTRA-HUMANITE's brain in the body of ROBOTMAN!
Roy Thomas concocts another intricate story that can best be described as 'exciting mayhem'!
You also get a one-page Jerry Ordway pin-up re-creating of the cover of ALL-STAR COMICS #3 from 1940, as well as a one-page JSA story from ALL-STAR COMICS #11 written by Gardner Fox!
This is a terrific-looking copy of ALL-STAR COMICS ANNUAL #2, with a strong binding, glossy covers and no faults or blemishes. Overstreet values a 8.5 VF+ copy like this one at $6 . . but we're offering it for just $4.50, with the added incentive of our always L•O•W shipping cost which makes it far less expensive than the cost of the next cheapest copy here on HipComic!!
Be an ALL-STAR and snatch this one up!
