About the item: From the December 2013 issue of Playboy, this collection features five preliminary illustrations created by acclaimed illustrator Doug Sneyd for that issues gag cartoon. The first scan features everything the buyer will receive- with further scans for greater detail. The second scan shows the initial rough (8 1/2 by 11 inches) approved by Hugh Hefner (who hand-wrote "OK color page H" on the page as in "okay to color and proceed, Hugh Hefner"). The next three scans feature pencil preliminary sketches (all drawn on vellum and measuring approximately 8 by 11 inches... the third is a bit smaller - roughly 8 by 10 inches). The sixth scan features a hand-drawn and hand-colored sketch rendered on Arches of France cold press watercolor paper using Dr. Ph. Martin's aniline dyes (this measures 8 by 10 inches). The final scan features the cartoon as it appeared in the issue and is the actual page from the magazine (though it has been removed from the magazine... please note that the magazine itself is not included in with the listing). Condition on each piece is good- these were prelims and as part of the creative process are not expected to be kept perfect. Would look great framed together! He also illustrated single-panel cartoons for the Toronto Star, Canada's largest circulation newspaper (cartoons that were eventually syndicated throughout North America). In 1964, he began working for Playboy and his gag strips have appeared in the magazine ever since. Throughout his career, he has contributed over 500 cartoons in all and became a favorite artist of Playboy readers.
