Here's a largely-forgotten chapter from Jack Kirby's brief tenure at DC Comics - an issue of DC's 1st ISSUE SPECIAL (which spotlighted one-off stories, hoping that one might garner enough interest to turn into a series) featuring Kirby's new spin on a superhero meme that dates back to the 1940s with men obsessed with the rule of justice taking on the MANHUNTER identity to stop crime.

Here, in a three-part MANHUNTER story both written and illustrated by Jack Kirby, we meet MARK SHAW, a public defender, who is frustrated in his attempts to gain justice and safeguard the innocent. His uncle introduces him to the ancient society of the MANHUNTERS, whose arcane skills and weaponry have been employed to bring down many such villains over the decades. MARK SHAW becomes a MANHUNTER, taking the mask and costume from his predecessor, and begins a war against a gangster nicknamed "THE HOG".

Additionally, you get a one-page text feature written by Kirby himself - "Manhunter: The Justice Principle" - in which the "King" discusses his views on justice!

Even though this character never took off with DC, Kirby's inventive storytelling and action-packed images are on full display!

This is a great-looking copy of one of Kirby's lesser-known creations while at DC in the early 1970s. Although there are minor stress lines on the cover, the binding is strong, the pages are supple and bright, there are no splits, tears, separations, or pieces missing - a terrific part of any Kirby collection!
