Issue Description
After the devastating events of the previous few issues, the X-Men must deal with their loss and move forward...but is everything as it seems? And how will the X-Men's foes react to their emerging status quo? Who lives? Who leaves? And what is...the Shadow King?
Word is out that Professor Charles Xavier has been killed. The X-Men are in mourning. Kitty decides to go through with her threat to leave. She says she's learned to use her powers and there's nothing else there for her. Bobby asks if it has anything to do with the fact that her mother lives closer to Peter Parker's house. Rogue's severed arm seems to have healed okay. She asks Bobby to hold her for a little as she tries to deal with all the emotions inside her.
In the White House, there is some concern as to whether or not the mutant community will start World War III not that Xavier is dead. Nick Fury tries to convince them that Xavier wasn't keeping them all in check with his mental powers as they liked to believe.
Wolverine is visited by Sabretooth who continues to insist that he is Wolverine's son. He tells him to find his wife, Sabretooth's mother if he still doesn't believe him. Before the conversation can continue, Sabretooth is gone.
Jean Grey is distraught with the Professor's passing. Scott tries to console her but is apparently feeling some guilt over his anger over the Professor saying that he was in love with Jean before he was killed.
As the memorial service is about to begin, Wolverine checks on Storm. He notices on her laptop, a story entitled The Shadow King. Storm quickly shuts her laptop saying she doesn't want anyone to read her works before they're finished.
There is a big turnout for Charles' memorial including Lilandra, Moira, the Fantastic Four, Nick Fury, Emma Frost and her students, among others.
As the last of the visitors leave the mansion, Jean decides to go check on Nightcrawler to see if the mental blocks the Professor placed in his mind are still holding. When she opens the door to his holding room, it is empty.
Elsewhere, Magneto receives word that Xavier is dead. He says they will continue with their plans and wants a moment alone to revel in Xavier's death.
