Part 3 of Year of the Bastard
Spider's column excoriating the Smiler has caused his approval rating to plummet, but when the Smiler's political director Vita Severn approaches him to ask for his help, he wavers. Impressed and smitten by the beautiful and intelligent Dr. Severn, Spider decides that maybe the most important thing is getting the Beast out of office. Spider writes a new column indirectly (and sarcastically) giving his approval to the Smiler.
