Issue Description
Reeling from the events of Messiah Complex, the surviving mutants reassess Xavier’s dream amidst the rubble of the mansion. Betrayed by one of their own, and mourning the loss of former allies, is peaceful coexistence still an option? The only thing that’s certain is an uncertain future for mutantkind. Is anyone safe in a world without X-Men?
The issue begins with Cyclops dreaming about the Institute, Corsair and Jean Grey. Jean (Dark Phoenix form) turns into Emma, Emma telling Cyclops that change is good, clicking her fingers, and the surronding area is changed to a busy, bright city.
Cyclops wakes up and asks Emma to stop manipulating his dreams, and she tells to stop being a control freak, and the background slowly melts to reveals the two in bed kissing. Both of them get out of bed, Cyclops putting on some trousers and Emma just keeping the blanket around her. They both walk outside, revealing their hut to be in the Savage Land.
Flashback to two weeks before, with Cyclops standing on a small cliff overlooking the destroyed Institute. Emma and Cyclops finish a telepathic conversation, and Iron Man arrives. Iron Man asks Cyclops why he didn't call for assist, but he's just told that mutant problems tend to get worse when the goverment gets involved. Iron Man goes on to ask Cyclops to register the X-Men, but he tells him that the X-Men are no longer together, and mutants shouldn't have to register for being born.
Back to the Savage Land, and we see a few panels of Emma and Scott having a few adventure, including diving off a cliff, pinicking, riding the back of a dinosaur, wandering through the ruins of dinosaurs and running from, killing and cooking a wild boar. As the two enter a conversation and gaze up at the stars, and just as they begin to kiss, Ka-zar and Shanna arrive.
In Germany, Colossus and Nightcrawler (using an image inducer) walk down a street while Nightcrawler tells him about his childhood. They fetch Qolverine from a bar that he basically destroyed. The three head for a train, and Wolverine asks Nightcrawler how it went with paparazzi. As they enter a cabin on the train, Colossus reveals that they're stop is Russia.
Back in the Savage Land, Cyclops, Ka-Zar, Shanna (her tiger too) and Emma watch over as two dinosaurs fight. Ka-Zar tells Cyclops that it's just life, and Emma and Shanna talk telepathically about how Cyclops seems to be studying their every move, Emma telling Shanna that inside his headhe's calculating how to take the dinosaurs down himself.
Back in Cyclops and Emma's cabin, they talk about couple things, Emma telling him that she's very happy right now.
Angel's flying through San Fransisco, while we read and e-mail from him to Cyclops and Emma. Angel tells him that Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Colossus haven't been keeping a very low profile, showing a cover of a magazine with "Angelina Jolie" with Colossus behind her, showing Wolverine having messed with Nightcrawler's image inducer. As Cyclops reads the e-mail, Angel writes that he landed in something strange while looking for the address were Hepzibah and the others were supposed to meet. Emma and Cyclops get ready, knowing something's wrong, and the e-mail continues with Angel telling them that he landed in the 60s unable to find the others. His costume is suddenly changed from spandex to jacket with no top and jeans, and then two girls appear asking does he want to come to a party. He agrees and the three go off to party.

Volume Description
This is a continuation of Stan Lee's and Jack Kirby's original The X-Men (Vol. 1). Beginning with issue #114 the descriptive "Uncanny" was added to the cover treatment but it wasn't until issue #142 that the volume's official name was permanently changed to Uncanny X-Men.
The title has had many creative influences over the years but Chris Claremont was probably the force that drove the title through many it its historic changes, truly bringing it from "the world strangest teens" into their new status a team of mutants fight in a "world that fears and hates them". During his legendary 15 year run he gave us character and stories such as Phoenix/Dark Phoenix, the Hellfire Club, the New Mutants, X-Factor, the Mutant Massacre, Inferno and Jubilee and numerous other historic heroes and events. This epic run ended after editorial disputes in 1991.
For the Uncanny X-Men Post-Schism, see Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 2).
