Issue Description

After having to blow up his van in the last issue, Castle goes to Microchip who has been building his vans and tech equipment for ten years. He meets Microchip's son, who had been becoming a computer hacker.

When Castle goes to buy weapons her hears of a religious cult called Church of the Saved lead by a man called the Rev that has been trying to buy multiple weapons.Then while sitting in his weapon dealers car, buying weapons they are attacked with the weapons dealer dying. Castle ducks down and waits for the attacker to come closer and then shoots him. Frank sees that his attacker was from the Church of the Saved.

Frank goes back to Microchip to gather intel on the church of the saved. They discover that a cop used to be a member of the cult and Castle goes to him for information. Through him the Punisher learns that the Rev recruits inner city blacks and uses them to do his bidding. He then goes back to Microchip and they create a fake identity for him to infiltrate the cult.

Frank infuriates the cult and pretends to want to join them. They accept him and later he meets the Rev, who sends him on a mission to retrieve a tape. When Castle gets the tape he is shot in the process but stashes the tapes where no ineffective will find them. He is healed by the Rev.

Castle returns to get the tapes. He goes to his safe-house and watches what is on them and sees footage of the Rev executing someone.

This is the first ongoing comic book series starring the fictional Marvel Comics vigilante The Punisher, following a limited series published the previous year. It lasted for 104 issues after witch this title, as well as Punisher's other two comics Punisher: War Journal and Punisher: War Zone, where cancelled and merged into Punisher Volume 3.

This series also spawned seven annuals, as well as the annuals The Punisher Summer Special #1-4 , The Punisher: Back to School Special #1-3 and The Punisher Holiday Special #1-3.
