Issue Description

Castle hears about a group of smuggling immigrants from Mexico across the Texas border. He hears that they are mistreating the immigrants and they let 16 of them die. Frank goes to the spot that the truck will pass and waits. When nightfall comes he sees the truck but it stops.

Two men come out with a woman that reminds Frank of his wife, Maria. The men then attempt to rape the woman. A third one yells at them and Castle comes up behind him and slots his throat with a knife. He then goes to the two men assaulting the woman and kills them both. A mob of them comes after them and Frank and the woman are forced to the edge of a cliff. A shot grazes the lady and forces them to fall off.

The Punisher later awakens in a strange house. He walks outside and meets a native named Pepe that claims to of found him when he was looking for herbs. They talk and Frank tells him about the day his family died. Maria made sandwiches and they went to the park. To gangs showed up with guns and shot at each other through his family. Pepe tells Castle that although his loss was great, he shouldn't have to fight. He should look for harmony. Frank tells him that what he does is his nature now.

They are then interrupted by the woman that Frank saved earler telling him that they need to get out of there. Frank again confuses her for his wife when she walks up. She tells him that the bandits are coming again. They try to flank them but they shoot and kill them with a cannon. Pepe is shot in the fight. Frank asks the woman her name after the battle to which she replies, "Maria." The same name as Frank's wife.

This is the first ongoing comic book series starring the fictional Marvel Comics vigilante The Punisher, following a limited series published the previous year. It lasted for 104 issues after witch this title, as well as Punisher's other two comics Punisher: War Journal and Punisher: War Zone, where cancelled and merged into Punisher Volume 3.

This series also spawned seven annuals, as well as the annuals The Punisher Summer Special #1-4 , The Punisher: Back to School Special #1-3 and The Punisher Holiday Special #1-3.
