Spidey just can’t seem to catch a break these days. He’s got a great new pad and a cool new clique – so what’s the big problem? Oh, not much-- just a nefarious worldwide organization with an ingenious plan to conquer the world!
Peter Parker's figured out theat the HYDRA attack in the last issue was merely a ruse, a feint to cover up the ir real plans, and consults the case with Steve Rodgers.Peter theorizes on what might have happened to HYDRA, to change their goals, and their leader.
Mary Jane's new play is about to open. Mary Jane recieves roses from Peter, sitting font and center. The play goes very well, and Peter and Mary Jane mingle at the after party. While at the party, M.J. encounters Vincent Chambeliss, a sleezy tabloid photograpgher. He's been trying to get a picture of Mary Jane for days, and keeps hounding her. At the party, Peter notices two questionable indivduals.
Peter leaves the party, and dresses as Spider-Man, and tracks the indivduals he noticed at the party. He finds one of the guys following another, and the guy following is wearing a ring with a HYDRA symbol on it. The guy spots him thanks to a cat knocking over a plant, and starts shooting at Spider-Man. Spider-Man dodges the gunfire, when the shooter is struck by a motorist. The man the other had been following Lascombe, thanks Spider-Man, and attests to the fact that the collision was a total accident. Lascombe talks to Spider-Man, and then enters his home, as Peter wonders why his spidersense is tingling.
Mary Jane returns home from the party, and is about to enter Stark Tower when she is acosted by Chambliss, who says he saw Peter leave the party hurridly, and now he has M.J. arriving at Stark Tower at such a late hour. He asks she's there too see, and M.J. is forced to lie. She realizes she can't tell Chambliss she lives there without possibly tellling him that Peter is Spider-Man, and the New Avengers operate out of there, so she lies and says she's there to see Tony Stark.
Lascombe enters his home and tlks to his butler, about the unfortunate loss of his bodyguard, who was the man killed outside his place. He looks at a HYDRA uniform, and the enters into the underground Hydrabase. He speaks with representitives of foriegn interests about HYDRA's big plan to deport anthrax, typhus and boutlism into the Ogalla Aquifer, which stretches across 8 states, which would kill millions in 48 hours.
Peter gets home late, and gets into be with M.J. who is still awake and unable to sleep. She gets up early in the morning, to get the newspaper, to find Wolverine holding it. He throws it at her, makes a glib comment, and M.J. sees the headline- "Married Model In Love Nest Tryst With Tony Stark."

Volume Description
After the success of Amazing Fantasy #15 (Aug. 1962) a few months later the same creative team came back to start an ongoing series focusing on the character the two of them created.
The book's run continued until issue number 441 (Nov. 1998) when Marvel relaunched the title as Amazing Spider-Man Volume 2 with a new number 1 in January 1999. After issue #30 (#471) Marvel used a dual numbering system, yet the indicia still stated The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 2. On the title's 40th anniversary the numbering was reverted to go from issue 58 to issue 500 (Dec. 2003) as The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1.
This volume ends with #700 and is picked up by the Marvel Now! revolution volume Superior Spider-Man.
