Issue Description
Peter disposes of Spider-Clone’s body, convinced that he is the true Spider-Man. At an engagement party for Ned Leeds and Betty Brant, Peter discovers the return of Shocker! And this time, the villain has left a calling card that all of NYC can’t miss!
Skirmish Beneath the Streets! At the start of this issue, Spider-Man goes to an incinerating plant, to get rid of his clone's body now that he knows that he's the real Spider-Man. He has one last look at the body before his spider sense starts tingling, and he realizes someone is spying on him. However, a moment later he sees that no one is there. He then takes the clone's body up to one of the chimneys and throws the body into it. A few hours later, Peter Parker is at Empire State University with Mary Jane and Flash Thompson, when they see Harry Osborn, who's cured of his temporary insanity and back from the asylum he was sent to after he was the Green Goblin. Before Peter, Flash, and Mary Jane leave, Peter tells Harry that J. Jonah Jameson is having a party that night for Ned Leeds and Betty Brant, and that he should come along.
At the party that night, things are going well, but as they party goes on various reports over the radio say that there are mysterious blackouts going on all over the city. The power then goes off in Jameson's apartment, and Peter goes outside, suspicious of the blackouts. He notices a helicopter flying around, and swings onto it, before changing to Spider-Man whilst hanging from the web. From his viewpoint in the air, Spider-Man can see that the places where there have been blackouts are spelling out the name Shocker, although it isn't finished yet. Spider-Man then heads to the sewers, since for Shocker to be cutting out individual blocks he must be sabotaging the cables below the street.
Underground, in the sewers, Spider-Man runs into Shocker after a short while, and they engage in a brief scuffle. As they continue to fight, Shocker runs off, but Spider-Man's webbing runs out and he's too slow to catch Shocker. However, Shocker blasts the drain ceiling down, enabling him to escape, and knocking out Spider-Man. When Spider-Man wakes up, he finds his way out blocked by rubble, and the water level of the sewer filling up with rain water.

Volume Description
After the success of Amazing Fantasy #15 (Aug. 1962) a few months later the same creative team came back to start an ongoing series focusing on the character the two of them created.
The book's run continued until issue number 441 (Nov. 1998) when Marvel relaunched the title as Amazing Spider-Man Volume 2 with a new number 1 in January 1999. After issue #30 (#471) Marvel used a dual numbering system, yet the indicia still stated The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 2. On the title's 40th anniversary the numbering was reverted to go from issue 58 to issue 500 (Dec. 2003) as The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1.
This volume ends with #700 and is picked up by the Marvel Now! revolution volume Superior Spider-Man.
