Issue Description
Superboy's Big Brother! (part 2 is titled "The Secret of Mon-El!" / written by Robert Bernstein : reprinted in: Superboy #129, Adventure Comics #494, The Legion of Super-Heroes Archives #1)Mon-el travels to Earth in a rocket and Superboy mistakingly believes that Mon-el is his older brother from Krypton. After a while, Superboy suspects that Mon-el is a fake and paints large balls of lead green to simulate kryptonite. Unfortunately, the lead is extremely toxic to Mon-el and he finally explains that he is a Daxamite and actually visited Krypton before it exploded. Superboy and Mon-el decide to leave Mon-el in the Phantom Zone until he can receive a cure for his lead poisoning.

Superboy had been making appearances as the lead feature in Adventure Comics since early 1946, but he finally debuted in his own series in 1949. Any Superman fans who were unaware of the concept of the "adventures of Superman when he was a boy" may have been reassured by the fact that the man of steel himself introduced the series on the cover of the first issue. The Superboy series would feature work by the likes of France E. Heron and William Woolfolk and its success would last for over 30 years.
