A special issue inspired by the popular new Sonic Adventure game for the hot Sega Dreamcast system! After their amazing journey in issue #79, the Freedom Fighters find themselves in an ancient city that is a brave new world to them. Filled with five-fingered Overlanders who call themselves "humans," the furry friends are given a warm welcome a la "Escape From The Planet Of The Apes", the heroes receive a tour of the city, Amy goes shopping, Tails flies his plane, etc. But all is not right here, and true to form, Sonic's restless spirit finds him on night patrol, where his curiosity inevitably leads him to trouble and feats of daring do! The action continues in Sonic Super Special #13, shipping January 2000!

Originally starting out as a 4-issue tie-in with the original Sega Genesis game series, Sonic the Hedgehog eventually blossomed out into a continuation of the 1994 saturday morning cartoon series. Ben Hurst (a writer on the saturday morning cartoon) later on stated that he believed Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comic as the true, canonical continuation of that show.

Sonic the Hedgehog follows the exploits of a group of rebel freedom fighters as they fight back against the dictatorship of Dr. Eggman. Dr. Eggman wants nothing less than total planetary domination, through a process known as "roboticization" - the act of turning a living creature in to a cold, robotic slave. At the center of this struggle are seven mysterious "Chaos Emeralds" that radiate a strange, otherworldly energy.

The series holds the Guinness Record for the longest comic book series based on a video-game.
