Issue Description

Garth, the Hornblower, joins Kevin Matchstick and Joe Phat for breakfast.  They find him to be loyal but also a wee bit obsequious, so Kevin sends him on a snipe hunt to a random location in town.  However, while there, he runs into an army of Redcaps for which he is ill-prepared to fight.  He sounds the alarm and Kevin and Joe arrive to help.  Unfortunately Garth doesn't make it through the fight, and Kevin feels tremendously guilty.  Kevin and Joe are at least able to interrogate a Redcap and get a little information about their enemies' plans.
 
Kevin goes to look for Kirby Hero to try and get him to rejoin their effort against the Pale Incanter, but Kirby declines.  When Kevin arrives home, he finds Magda, his fated future love, waiting for him.

Volume Description

The Hero Defined is the second series in the planned Mage trilogy.  It comes after The Hero Discovered and before The Hero Denied.  It was published many years after the first series.  The third series has not yet been published, many years after the second series.  The second series had more of a mixed critical reception than the first series, but still had an enthusiastic following.
 
In it, Kevin Matchstick has become a more experienced and successful warrior, but to the detriment of his character.  He must find his second mage in order to learn how to move on to a better path--although he doesn't see it like that.
