Issue Description
The Hornblower tries to catch a Leanhaun Sidhe in a bar but is interrupted by a pair of his fellow avatars, the Sun Twins. The three fight over their quarry and she escapes. Kevin Matchstick, arriving on the scene, berates them--they're supposed to fight evil, not each other. The Hornblower apologizes but the Sun Twins are unrepentant.
Kevin and Kirby Hero are attacked by hell-hounds coordinated by the Sprigginflints and the Pale Incanter. Then Kevin is forced into a fight with another avatar, the Dragonslayer. Kevin wins, but the Bat burns him for fighting a fellow hero. When they get back to their apartment, they find Isis, who has come to town to help, along with her two sisters.

Volume Description
The Hero Defined is the second series in the planned Mage trilogy. It comes after The Hero Discovered and before The Hero Denied. It was published many years after the first series. The third series has not yet been published, many years after the second series. The second series had more of a mixed critical reception than the first series, but still had an enthusiastic following. In it, Kevin Matchstick has become a more experienced and successful warrior, but to the detriment of his character. He must find his second mage in order to learn how to move on to a better path--although he doesn't see it like that.
