Issue Description
Kevin Matchstick and Joe Phat drive to Montreal to search for the mystery behind the recent congregation of the forces of darkness in that city. Kirby has left to pursue his own Labors.Â
Joe and Kevin trail a basilisk but lose him. Then they fight a group of gargoyles, and are once again rejoiced by Kirby.  Kirby is glad to join up with them for now, but is not sure if he wants to stay as an independent warrior. They also meet Kim Song, the Monkey King, another avatar, who tells them that several other avatars have arrived in the city. Kirby shows them the cross on Mount Royal, which the heroes all recognize as the site of evil from their earlier vision.
Â
It turns out that the Pale Incanter has been siphoning off part Kevin's power whenever he uses it. He is then using that power to slowly bring his golem to life.

Volume Description
The Hero Defined is the second series in the planned Mage trilogy. It comes after The Hero Discovered and before The Hero Denied. It was published many years after the first series. The third series has not yet been published, many years after the second series. The second series had more of a mixed critical reception than the first series, but still had an enthusiastic following.Â
In it, Kevin Matchstick has become a more experienced and successful warrior, but to the detriment of his character. He must find his second mage in order to learn how to move on to a better path--although he doesn't see it like that.
