Issue Description
This is the first full issue of Mage: The Hero Defined. (Issue 0 is the second of two interludes that take place between The Hero Discovered and The Hero Defined.)
Kevin Matchstick and Joe Phat are avatars: reincarnated heroes fighting in the struggle against the forces of darkness. They have been working with each other for a little while now. They drive into a town, search out whatever "nasties" they can find, and destroy them.
In this issue, they fight a bridge troll, then find a nest of harpies that is using a human hobo for a slave. They are about to make a plan of attack when Kirby Hero arrives. In the meantime, a mysterious evil figure called the Pale Incanter has discovered their location.

Volume Description
The Hero Defined is the second series in the planned Mage trilogy. It comes after The Hero Discovered and before The Hero Denied. It was published many years after the first series. The third series has not yet been published, many years after the second series. The second series had more of a mixed critical reception than the first series, but still had an enthusiastic following. In it, Kevin Matchstick has become a more experienced and successful warrior, but to the detriment of his character. He must find his second mage in order to learn how to move on to a better path--although he doesn't see it like that.
