Issue Description
In 1945, the United States Navy suffered its biggest crisis of survival due to the intense Japanese Kamikaze attacks. The kamikazes' main targets were the fleet carriers, better known to most as the "Queens of the Seas." Although the U.S. Navy's submarine forces were providing a most valuable "silent service" by sinking more than 50% of the enemy ships using less than 10% of their naval strength, it was the American aircraft carriers that took the brunt of the Japanese attention due to their high visibility. Their escort ships often sacrificed themselves to draw the enemy fire away from the primary target. No chapter in history displayed such courage under fire as when enemies committing suicide to achieve their mission were so alien to the men who faced them. In this alternate-1946 history, the invasion of Japan placed the carriers in even more danger. Three new armored-deck Midway-class carriers can only slow down the steel-plated rain of blood and guts.
