The story opens in Helium where Kantos Kan is rallying his comrades to search the missing Dejah Thoris and debate where John Carter is responsible for her disappearance. Mors Kajak, Dejah Thoris' father, enters and further motivates the men of Helium to find his daughter. Meanwhile, John Carter must battle his way to Stara Kan, where a final battle takes place.

Volume Description
John Carter, Warlord of Mars was a 1977-1979 Marvel series loosely based upon the Barsoom series of novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. This 28 issue series takes place during chapter 27 of Edgar Rice Burroughs' novel A Princess of Mars. The series was well received and won the 1978 "Favourite New Title Eagle Award" (a British comics award based on the voting of fans).
The series also had an John Carter Warlord of Mars Annual series that accompanied the monthly series.
